The house story

A café remembered between two journeys.

The name CHOWK47 looks back to the partition era — a time when streets, stations and cafés became places of departure, reunion and memory.

There once stood a small café near a busy chowk: a crossroads where traders, railway travellers, families and friends would stop for hot chai, spiced breakfasts and food generous enough to share. In 1947, as borders shifted and millions moved across the subcontinent, the café became part of a family story carried forward rather than a place left behind.

Today in Edinburgh, CHOWK47 reimagines that spirit rather than reproducing it: an old-world café with Bombay energy, Persian hospitality, slow-cooked dishes and tables made for lingering.

I visited this place last week with group of my freinds and it was an amazing experience being here. Food, service, staff and everything was best. The girl of staff there served us named “SIYA” was amazing and treated us really well. I will suggest to try here once.

Summer evenings

Shisha under the canopy.

When the evenings stay light, the chowk moves outside.

Through the summer months we set out tables under the canopy on Grosvenor Street. Pull up a chair with a shisha, a pot of kadak chai and something from the grill, and let the night run slowly, the way it did on the old café corners.
